|Last Will and Testament of Joachim Frederick Joens of Clinton County Iowa
Note: This Will was written in German, I think, and then translated by Clinton County. Both copies are fuzzy and out of focus so difficult to read.
I Joachim Frederick Joens a resident of Hampshire Township in the County of Clinton State of Iowa. Born in Eofde* in Schleswig and of sound mind and memory declare herewith that this is my last will and testament and order that my property after all debts that may exist have been paid be divided as follows:
I give to Johan Joens or his heirs four hundred Dollars
I give to Jurgen Joens four hundred Dollars
I give to Hans Joens or his heirs four hundred Dollars
I give to Claus Joens or his heirs three hundred fourty three Dollars
I give to Franke Gehlem? (nee Joens) or her heirs fifty seven Dollars
I give to Anna Joens four hundred Dollars
I give to Mathias Joens four hundred Dollars
I give to Wisbhe Joens or his heirs four hundred Dollars.
Further I bequeath to Peter Joens and Peter Bott the rest amounting to about Eight or Nine hundred Dollars under the condition that they give me a decent burial and erect a good monument on my grave and further I order that Peter Joens and Peter Bott be appointed Administrators of my Estate and that they shall see to it that this my last will is complied with in all its particulars.
In the event any of the money should be lost they shall not in any manner be held responsible for the same but the loss shall be borne by all the heirs in proportion. In witness of the above my last will I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of March 1887.

We hereby certify that the forgoing testament was executed in our presence and that it was the free will of the testator.
State of Iowa
I William Kreim clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the April Term A. D. 1887 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date on the 12 day of March 1887 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of Jochim Frederick Joens late of said County, deceased, and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 26th day of April A. D. 1887.
