In the 1860 census Wm and wife Elizabeth are living in Clinton Iowa with sons Wm. and John and daughter Flora. William is working as a day laborer. In 1870 Wm. Sr. is a machinist and Wm. Jr is a Tinsmith. In the 1870 census, I also find a Wm. Lake single, born in England in 1849 who is a tinsmith living in Cook Co. These census reports were done about a month apart so it is possible that he was counted twice.

Died in Clinton Iowa of Chronic Bronchitis and old age.

In 1910 there is an entry in Ellis Island of William Lake arriving on the ship Kronprinzessin Cecelie which departed from Southampton, England. It shows William's place of residence as Clinton Iowa and his age as 84. Traveling with him was his grandson, Fred Lake who listed his place of residence as Pondcreek, Oklahoma and his age 30.
