Notes for William THORNTON |
A labourer in 1861, William and Ann are living in Old Malton, Yorkshire. Class: RG9; Piece: 3625; Folio: 99; Page: 12; GSU roll: 543163. In 1871 the Thorntons are living in the chapel yard at St. Leonards, Malton. William is working as farm laborer .
By 1881 Ann had passed away and William had remarried Sarah.
About this time, his son Frank joined the RMLI, a private, and was stationed at the North Barracks in Walmer, Kent. His son William received some training as a Tailor and left for the US arriving in 1883. Frank was to join him a few years later in 1887. Young John went to work for the Stockdale family in Malton as farm servant. His daughter Jane Ann was employed by the Coulson family as a domestic Servent in Helmsley, Yorkshire.
I believe William's son John followed his two older brothers to Minnesota and settled into Walbasha farming in Gillford. |
