Petition of William Lake for Naturalization
To
the Honorable the Court of Common Pleas of Cambria County in the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
The
Petition of William Lake of Cambria Township humbly Sheweth, that your Petitioner
is a native of Monmouthshire England and was heretofore a Subject of Victoria
first Queen of England and that he has resided within the limits and under the
jurisdiction of the United States of America for five years and within the
State of Pennsylvania for one year, and that two years prior to this
application, that is to say, on the first day of April AD 1840 at a Court of
Common Pleas of said county of Cambria your petitioner declared his intention
of becoming a citizen of the United States, in the manner required by law as in
and by the Records of said Court reference being thereto had appears that he
will support the Constitution of the United States; and that he doth absolutely
and entirely renounce and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any
foreign prince potentate and Sovereignty whatever and particularly to Victoria
first, Queen of Great Britain and Ireland whereof he was heretofore a
Subject. Your petitioner therefore
prays that he may be admitted to be a citizen of the United States of America.

my petition, are true and that I will support the Constitution of the United
States and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure forever all
allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince potentate and Sovereignty
whatever, and particularly, absolutely and certainly renounce and abjure all
allegiance and fidelity to Victoria first Queen on Britain………………

Declaration
of William Lake
The declaration of William Lake his solemn oath
represents that he was in Monmouthshire in England about the year one thousand
seven hundred and ninety five that it is bona fide his intention to become a
citizen of the United States and to sever all allegiance and fidelity to every
foreign prince potentence or sovereignty whatever and particularly to Victoria
first Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of whom he was heretofore a subject.
The said William Lake makes report and registry as follows: Name- William Lake, Birthplace –
Monmouthshire, England, Age- 45 years; Nation and allegiance Great Britain –
Place whence he migrated, Bristol, England; Place of settlement, Cambria
County, Pennsylvania. Sworn and
subscribed in open court the first day of April AD 1840 William X(his mark) Lake
